Great Whales: Up Close and Personal
Dive back in.

In 2017, we shared the incredible journey of Blue, ROM’s beloved blue whale, in Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story. The highly successful ROM-original exhibition told the story of nine blue whales that died tragically in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in 2014, and the unprecedented opportunity for research and conservation it presented.

Fast forward four years and we’re going back to the depths. Showcasing the ROM’s commitment to Canada’s iconic North Atlantic whales, this exhibition takes the story further and features Blue alongside two new skeletons: the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale and the deep diving sperm whale.
Elias Sime: Tightrope
Contemporary Ethiopian artist Elias Sime presents his intricately woven and densely layered artworks that draw upon their materiality to comment on humanity, ecological sustainability, and the resilience of nature. The Tightrope series featuring 24 artworks, includes his work from the last decade and is the first Canadian presentation of this exhibition.

Elias Sime: Tightrope is organized by the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College, Clinton, New York.
The Cloth that Changed the World: India’s Painted and Printed Cottons
This exhibition celebrates the technical mastery, creativity, and far-reaching influence of India’s vividly painted and printed textiles, from the origins of dyeing and weaving millennia ago, to the artisans working with chintz today.
