Unmasking the Pandemic: From Personal Protection to Personal Expression
As the COVID-19 pandemic took hold and masks were adopted internationally as personal accessories, ROM curators started collecting face masks that showcased the creativity of the masks and their makers from across the globe.

Our newest exhibition Unmasking the Pandemic: From Personal Protection to Personal Expression highlights ROM’s collection of masks that features the work of artists from over 23 countries, including over 40 Canadian makers and 15 Indigenous designers and artists.

This exhibition is presented free of charge to all who visit ROM. No pre-purchased tickets are required.

Great Whales: Up Close and Personal
Dive back in. In 2017, we shared the incredible journey of Blue, ROM’s beloved blue whale, in Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story. Fast forward four years and we’re going back to the depths with Blue featured alongside two new skeletons: the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale and the deep diving sperm whale. Discover these incredible great whales of Canada's east coast, their complex relationships with humans, and what we can do to save them.

High-fashion cape made from spider silk
We take a closer look at how the revival and adaptation of 19th-century systems and tools allowed hundreds of yards of silk filaments to be safely extracted from a million female golden orb spiders.
Birds dispersal controlled by wing shape
The distance that various birds can travel has long been thought to be controlled by complex factors. New research by Dr. Santiago Claramunt, Associate Curator of Birds at ROM, explores how wing shape and span can affect the conservation of bird species.
