Emancipation Day - Canada’s Past, Present & Future

Emancipation Day represents both a Canadian and international celebration, as well as a movement that challenges racism in former British colonies across the globe. Join Dr. Cheryl Thompson and Rosemary Sadlier to explore the global roots of the movement, and its local connection to Caribana and the Caribbean Festival.

A Mystery Solved
In 2010, Kryz Grzymski, ROM Senior Curator of Egypt and Nubia, found a beautiful yet mysterious large cylinder in Meroe, Sudan. Now 10 years later, Kryz shares an update and solves the mystery of this cylinder currently in the ROM’s collection. 
ROM SPEAKS ENCORE
As the ROM's signature lecture series, this program covers a wide range of engaging topics related to art, culture and nature. We will be sharing select recordings of our most exciting ROM Speaks lectures every other Tuesday on the ROM's YouTube channel this summer and fall.

Tune in to this engaging in conversation with Kirk Hammett of the heavy metal band Metallica to celebrate the exhibition It's Alive! Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art from the Kirk Hammett Collection.

As Ontario and Canada re-open, we want to thank those who worked tirelessly during the early months of the pandemic to keep us safe, supported and healthy by offering free general admission to our incredible frontline workers in emergency services, health care, grocery stores, city operations and maintenance, social services, public transit, and delivery services. 

Frontline workers and up to 3 guests can visit the ROM’s permanent galleries for free from Saturday, August 1 until Sunday, August 30, 2020.
